26.08.2019 Bangladeshi Male brought to court for corruption

A Bangladeshi male, Milon bin Mohammad Kalu Mondol, was once again brought before the Magistrate’s court, Bandar Seri Begawan for an offence under Section 6 (b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (Chapter 131).

Investigation conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau revealed that on 22nd July 2019, at the vicinity of the old Tamu Kianggeh area, Milon corruptly offered to one Police Personnel of the Royal Brunei Police Force a gratification of sum of BND$100.00 (One Hundred Brunei Dollar), as an inducement for the said Police Personnel to refrain from taking action against Milon for purportedly committing an offence under the Tobacco Order, 2005.

The charge was previously read to the defendant on 13th August 2019, to which the defendant plead not guilty. Magistrate Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Haji Bahar fixed the trial dates on 23rd to 26th September 2019. In the meantime, the defendant is remanded at Maraburong Prison awaiting trial dates.

The prosecution was represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Pengiran Nor ‘Azmeena binti Pengiran Haji Mohiddin of the Attorney General’s Chamber.
